“Raising Exiles”

In 1 Kings and 1 Chronicles we read about how a young king who reoriented a people back to the way of God. It starts with his own pursuit of God and leads to a complete restructuring of life in the Kingdom of Judah. Little did King Josiah know, he was preparing a new generation to live by faith at the margins of a new empire. Young people like Daniel were set up by earlier leaders to thrive in their devotion to God despite living in Babylon - a kingdom devoted to anything but God.

In these stories we see hope that the next generation can fully follow Jesus in secular, post-Christian Canada with the help of leaders committed to pursuing God and raising them up to do so too in spaces that feel foreign.
